Tito Puente was one of the best percussionists I've ever heard. When I was in second grade, I heard a couple of his songs on 88.5 Kplu in Seattle at the time, but didn't think much of him then. But now I know who he was, and how he contributed to latin music. I'm a 14 year old blind keyboardist, and am inspired by all of the musicians I've heard. I always listen to Xm radio's Latin Jazz station, and came across a song I liked, which was from Tito Puente. My favorites are Ran Kan Kan, and a live recording of Oye Como Va. I'm glad Tito Jr. is keeping his father's music alive. Very well done, and great version of the classic Que Sera Mi China. Tito Puente's music will never be forgotten.

I'm from the UK and came upon Tito late but since have changed what I perceived as "Latin" music, this is thanks to Tito. He brought the timbales to the front of the band the same way as Gene Krupa ans Keith Moon did with the drum_kit, percussionist every where owe him a massive debt of gratitude

I met Mr. Tito Puente back in the late 80's in Berlin Germany. What a gentleman! He was always happy. He always asked for me when he visited us and always invited me backstage. We talked and joked while he drank a glass of Remy Martin. I even played with him on a duel in "El Rey del Timbal" on stage! And I got a video to prove it. One of my best memories. But, never got to thank him for his friendship. But, he knows that I'm grateful. And that's good enough for me. Gracias, Maestro!

I met the Master, back in 77 and played with him at a fundraiser for The Greats, rest in Peace Legend Singer Santitos Colon's wife.
We all need to thank Tito Puente not only for his legacy also for bringing the percussion section to the front stage.
My Respect.

I got to meet Tito & Patato at a record store call Discomat in 1979 in N.Y.C. A friend and myself went there after hearing that the both would attend. The album Just like magic had came out and Martin Cohen was also there to promote the album. Can you believe no one was there at the beginning and when we saw both of them walk up the stairs we were like this is too good to be true! We were besides ourself. Both Tito & Patato sign the album,It was the best day in my percussion life!

Friends were talking about Tito Puente in 1997. That's when I first heard of him. How fortunate we were when he performed that year at the 1st Annual Brownsville Latin Jazz Festival. Unforgettable South Texas event!

Tito Puente was a mentor and pioneer for many musicians on this globe. He did not only play latin music, but his music reached the people around the globe. His happiness and brilliant soli are outstanding!
God bless him, Hakim Ludin
